Any one have any idea what has caused these holes in the ground, they keep appearing, if I fill them in they come back, I want to poor some petrol down the holes but Mrs Phil won't let me.

Have you had any big moths banging on the windows? We get them periodically, seem to emerge from holes like those, ~1cm diameter, sometimes with a yellow pupal case around 5cm long. Heaps in the lawn and paddocks. If this is the case, ain't no-one home by the time you find them, so petrol won't do too much.
