Hi,
Is this the link you are trying to open..? I'm assuning that it's the Tas State Library, given the particulars on your Avitar...
http://www.talis.tas.gov.au:8000/
I too, am running XP SP2
-
Yes.still get the error.
clicking it in your message.
-
Nope. Doesn't work for me either.
Maybe the server is down.
-
I can access it - best thing I ever did was dump SP2 :D :D :D :D Problem solvered!!!
-
Just tried it without the port number.
No problemo. :)

OK for me. I'm running Firefox
-
SP 2 conflicts with any other firewall, I had the same problem around Xmas, got rid of it, no more problems.
Thankyou Bill Gates, mongrel

I'm running a corporate version of XP Proffesional SP2 behind a corporate firewall.
All is well if I don't use port 8080.
-
how do i dump sp2 ?
also does this kill there firewall and antispyware.
-
I run SP2. I also run a firewall (Norton). I've got no problems and have had no problems.

It might be worth trying a lower security setting for this site only before you remove SP2.
Go to Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites and enter the web address that you want to use, after you've done that check that the default security setting is set to low.
I've had no problem accessing the link above, still have SP2 and also use Zone Alarm fire wall.
-
The issue isn't so much if you are running SP2 but rather if you are using the SP2 firewall and does is conflict with another firewall you may also be running.
If you are having a problem accessing port 8000, then it must be disabled somewhere. This could be through the windows XP-SP2 firewall, through a 3rd party firewall that you are using, through a hardware firewall (how do you connect to the internet? modem, router, company network, proxy server, etc) or through your ISP (though this is unlikely).
