Hi all,
I am a complete noob and am looking to get started with some basic woodworking and taking it from there.
Happy to take any hints or advice anyone has on how to get started and how to set myself up.
Looking forward to spending many hours trawling through all your ideas and hints!
Welcome to the forum.
Look at what you are going to make and see what tools will be needed in order to get the item completed. That's sort of the way that I started and continue to travel.
What I need I purchase or I come up with a different plan and then decide on how much ($ limit) I will spend on the tool.
The most basic items for anything is a ruler and pencil. In saying that it would be better to have a tool that is used for more then one specific task.
Welcome aboard, you can start off with as few or many tools as you can afford. No matter how many you have it will never be enough.
At the moment, I look like I'm sponsored by Ozito becausemy shed is full of cheap tools but I was looking to get a table saw, table router (or try to find a table that incorporates both if such a beast exists) and a drill press.
I have just made a couple of frames that I have screwed to my shed frame and painted a couple of flags on MDF and peg poard which have then been screwed to the frames and knocked up a little trailer to go on the back of my kids little tractor.
I know these tools may be a little ambitious for a beginner but I figure once I have them, there will always be some use for them.
I have bought a few magazines in the past month or so that have a few projects I would like to attempt but don't have anything in my shed that could get the job done.
Future projects I would like to have a crack at are a wood oven pizza slide, letter arranger and a poker table.
Welcome aboard. When you buy your tools, be they power or not, remember to buy the best you can afford. They'll serve you well in the long run.

table saw and router table combinations are very common. Usually the router table add-on is an extra. The TS fence can usually be modified to act as a router fence.Quote:

I just found a Triton router table with a Makita 1/2" router attached with a biscuit joiner thrown in for $200. I am quite happy with that for a price.
Next is the table saw but that might have to wait til Xmas.
