Not In Stock

:frustrated: :ranton: Seems we have many stores, outlets business advertising items either in catalogues, pamphlets, brochures on websites which when you go in, try to order on-line or even just ring to check that they have them in stock. They don't have them:((, no idea when they'll get them in even their supplier has none in stock.

:rolleyes: So whats going on?????

Is this a case of they would prefer us to choose the product they have on the shelf even if its not what we want, shop on-line ,shop OS .:~

My latest is trying to buy a new printer, for 3 months now 4 choices of 2 brands of printer (after 2 printers) ranging in price from $45 to $500 mean while the prices of the same printers always out of stock have gone up and down with Tax time, sales and the AU-US $ :?

I was sure we had laws as to advertising things which companies can't supply. Seems a whole Gov department to which we can complain, which takes as long and as much time to get no action is allowing it to continue :(( with their blessing due to lack of decent action in oh 25 years I can go back with just one major department store and that chain still gets away with excuses such as stock not arrived etc etc etc.

I am all for buying local but gee how the Bl$%^&* hell can we under these circumstances.

To those fellows who are buying OS that I have frowned on, my sincere apologies I understand now why you do it. I have seen many of you commend the time it takes for items to arrive, the fact they have items in stock, the lower cost which includes shipping, responses to email, phone calls etc. The only thing that still concerns me is warranty.:rantoff:

Some things just lend themselves to being bought online OS. Books, DVD's Music etc, about 1/2 the price of here. Never bought any hand tools, but if they will ship to Aust there seems to be some really good deals.

Electrical goods are about the only thing that I wouldn't buy OS, having to use step up transformers and then lack of warranty worries me.

As far as Gerry Harvey goes, he can procreate and travel. :U

Geoff its funny Gerry complain's bitterly about people buying on-line and OS :rolleyes: so what companies make his stock here in Australia what Camera's, TV's or furniture manufactures make his stock, etc etc. He is after all just an outlet same as a butcher supplying meat to customers. He has taken his stores OS to Europe :? with tax funded government help.

Exactly, Gerry whinges that it is not a level playing field because orders OS up to $1000 don't attract GST.

If his prices where only 10% dearer he would have a case, but when you can buy for 40-50% cheaper, have it delivered and in some cases get it quicker than what you can from him, he is only making himself look foolish with all his bleating.

Even had stuff in stock in case a customer wants to buy it & suddenly the market moves or the dollar goes up?

I still have 2 brand new floppy drives, 2 brand new CD-ROM drives, a CR-RW drive, a brand new AT power supply, complete with power switch sitting in my stock cupboard.... nobody wants them & I couldn't even sell them on eBay for what they cost me. :rolleyes:

I also have 2 brand new serial mice, a couple of PS2 keyboards, a 16 port 10/100 rack mount switch, 8 adapter kits to mount a 3.5" drive in a 5.25" bay.... waffle waffle waffle...

The only thing I keep in stock now is me.... I order everything else as I need it. :)

First of it is called bait advertising and is a no no. Gerry is in Singapore I went there and they were cheap. Cliff keep your old parts and sell them as an antique. Now this next bit is what I think. As for things going up it is our own fault. We want more money to live the money has to come from somewhere so things go up and then we need more money to live and so on. Once again this is what I think so don't get upset.

Yes Cliff although it was short lived for similar reasons no one wanted the old stuff. Son got one of the CD burners brand new its still in the box they bought newer machine with all fitted in a laptop :doh:. Still have a 25kg create full of cables bits n bobs. Reams and rolls of special purpose paper for another situation, tools etc.

I understand your situation Cliff it would be my way also if still doing it now days. I look at old shops and workshops some of which I ordered items for in boxes of hundred and more who have bought stock and its being auctioned off on such as Grey's.

Situations such as old stock moving out new stock moving in but in 4 months this situation has not changed "No Stock Available"on their web page so spoke to them today. Mind you I did email and still waiting for return call. Yet the manufacture who points to the vendor doesn't show it. Now the vendor does not buy off manufacturer they have to buy off the importer:stars: No new machines on the horizon.

In essence Cliff we became over stocked we got fingers burnt as is happening now............is this history repeating itself that of a long time ago supply and demand, money becoming harder to get. Yes all pre-depression signs.

Sign of the times more like.... electronic stuff in particular goes out of date sooooo fast.

Stuff like hammers & shovels etc don't go out of date, they just get made heaps cheaper & fail more often than they used to.

Cliff, it is a pity you don't service Macs, you wouldn't need all those spare parts if you did. :D Then again, if you did service Macs, you probably wouldn't have much to do. :D

How about not having kreg screws in stock ? Not one size mind, but about 2/3 of the options. Not mentioning any names.

When you have to drive 1 hr across town at $1.50 a liter only to find what you wanted isn't there paying shipping starts to look a good option.

Cliff, wish I'd known about your stock a couple of years back. I was desperately looking for an AT power supply. Don't have any 5 1'4 drives that still work do you ? I've got a box of them that don't. Bothersome things....

Regarding GH his whole business started by undercutting the established department stores. Even then much of what he sold was imported but the real issue was lower overheads. I don't know that he paid lower wages but he employed people off the street at a time when working at DJ's or Myer was seen as a career, and you got trained.

I'm not suggesting what he did was wrong, but you can't undermine another business then whinge when your idea gets superceded.

Nuh, I did have a box of 5.25" floppies in stock up until about 5 years ago.
I also had a box of 3.5" floppies in stock up until about 2 years ago.
