gday all..from grandad
Im a retired industrial arts teacher (high school -nsw) --used Hercus lathes since my early years teaching,, always wanted one but no go... so bought a large hare and forbes chiwanese model, quite nice but not a HERCUS !
Could you imagine when the local head teacher offered me the pick of four hercus lathes they were replacing .. with many accessories ( I had taught at this school for 33 years, yes, I know, no rude comments ! ) They felt the school owed me a favour so the price was $0 , nix, nothing !!!!!!,yes you read that correctly, what luck !
Now I am in the process of cleaning etc. so am reading all your Hercus comments and picking up some extra clues , I also have many of my own, remember I have had 33 years being taught by " experts ".
Thanks for all the info so far........grandad

Welcome Grandad ... you are among many of us wearing
the title. Great to see you had some luck with the lathe
but now we need to see the results of some hard work.
Good turning.
