I'm looking to build a small pergola in Brisbane. I am finding it hard to get information about Council requirements, as I'm hoping to build without the need for a permit. It is a small lot (375m). Any advice about council requirements would be grateful. Also, I'm told you can buy pre-made click-lock decking, which can be laid straight over concrete. Any suggestions where I might find this product?

I'm a bit rusty on Bris planning regulations at the moment, but I THINK:
On a small lot, almost anything needs a full planning permit, however if you are building a pergola (which by definition is not a covered area) you can probably do it without a permit by claiming it is an horticultural appertenance (sp?).
Suggest you make an anonymous enquiry to your closest Council branch office, then just build the thing anyway!

Sorry I can't help with the regulations - not related but we live just outside of brisbane in redlands shire, and I only found out yesterday that we are not permitted to install/have rainwater tanks! Incredible.
Anyway, I know that Bunnings sells the 'click' decking you're referring to. It's strips of unfinished timber on plastic rails that clip together. It's fairly expensive at $11 per square (can't remember the dimensions, but they're fairly small... maybe 60cm?). Would certainly be a quick deck solution for a flat concrete slab...
