G'day Mate

My name is Mike, born in England and came to Aussie in 1970 and been here ever since. Married my beautiful lady in 71 and we have 5 kids, 21 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. I love family and most of what I do is to make or repair something for them. I'm strictly a home handyman who has turned his hand to most things but can't settle on any one. I love re-using things, especially old wood. I enjoy making presents for family but not much into toys. Not good enough I don't think. I had nearly 8 years in the regular army stationed at Puckapunyal in Victoria. Since then I've been a butcher, foreman in the meat works, guard in the railway, admin manager, transport supervisor, retail computer salesman and manager, call centre operator, and Works Planner.
I had a stroke a couple of years ago and have been battling back from that. I've just decided I'm not going to get back to work so am in the process of retireing. Hopeing that I will get into the hobbies a bit more.
I have quite a collection of Triton gear and because of my abscence from doing anything for a couple of years, I've only today found out about the demise of Triton, a big loss, and GMC, who I don't think will be missed.

Welcome to the forum David, not good enough for toys? toys being the magic word, have some fun with them I was into it 20 years ago when my kids started to appear. They should be as much fun for you as them. You have certainly been around the traps. Enjoy.

just wondering what part of the UK you came from , i am in south east queensland now we came from uk in 1969 , born middlesbrough and lived in stevenage for a few years .
no matter what you need to know or find out info on some one in this forum is sure to be able to help .

I was born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, and lived in Middlesex all my English life. Family was living in Harefield when I left. Came out on my own in 1970 when I was 18.
I'm loving what I've seen in the forums so far.

Hi all, names Michael, I'm 45 and and avid fan of all things timber. My collection of things include mainly triton gear and a leda 20 inch thicknesser to make use of recycled floorboards and anything else I can lay my hands on .

Have built quite a few pieces of furniture for friends and family and always on the lookout for ideas which brings me here.

Looking forward to conversing with all you timber nuts out there and anyone in adelaide needs a thicknesser for timber give me a yell . bought the thing cos I was sick of merchants charging a fortune for getting mine planed so only to happy to help a fellow out

Hi MP great to have you aboard. Box looks great. Not too sure about the lip on the lid. Looks too much like a biscuit to me but all in all, a nice box.

yeah was abit dissapointed on how it looked but it was apiece of oregon not a biscuit. basically the top red cedar section swings up (hidden hinges and magnets to reveal a set of coins from his year of birht and then you open main section for cufflinks and stuff. a few more piccies to explain it better, is the any way of showing the photo or can you only have the link to it like the first on i did and these 2

Oh the main body of the box is kauri pine and the lid and base is queensland red cedar with a hand cut yin/yang (he was a hippie) out of huon pine
