Verandah Spans

G'day
I am planning to build a verandah onto the front of my house. I have it pretty much worked out. However, I need to know what the span measurements for the floor etc is, as in. How far from the house can I come before I have to stump the middle? How far can the beams be apart for the decking? I am planning to make it out of steel with 150mm galvanised c channel for my cross members. Any advice greatly accepted
