This morning, the media reported that the Esky cooler brand has been sold to the US outdoor company Coleman. The Esky brand was owned by the Australian company Nylex, which went into administration in February 2009.

The sale of the Esky brand follows the sale last year of the Golden Circle company to Heinz (US) and the Victa lawnmower brand to Brigs & Stratton (US). In 2006, the Swiss firm Nestle bought Uncle Toby's.

(sigh)

On a positive note, Coleman plans to grow the Esky brand outside of Australia and will continue the present manufactuing plant in Victoria. One wonders how long this will last.

More obscure: Arana, one of australia's biggest biotecks has been taken over by Cephalon (US). I am, for the next few weeks at least, an Arana shareholder, until my shares get stolen..er...I mean compulsorily aquired by the raiders for a song.

Likewise they have "promised" to keep the Australian jobs. Yeah right...

The ESKY was originally a Malleys product invented by one of their sheetmetal workers, it has undergone a few changes since then.:2tsup:
