Did I do something to change the post format on my forum display or has it been adjusted by a higher power?
I've just noticed that the user information is now on the right hand side of the post header instead of just underneath the poster's username. Can I change it back as I much prefer to see all the user info in the same spot?
Thanks,
Steve.

No you didn't

Yes it has

No, unless the one, who has the higher power changes his/her mind :whistling2:

Nup not changing it back. Been out of date for around 5 years now. Has plenty of advantages including fitting more across the page. All the info is still there just horizontally in stead of vertically.

I remember the last time this was tried... hated it then, still hate it now. The only advantage I can see has already been mentioned: more text across the page. Personally I find that the way it breaks the "flow" of the reading is irritating, and instead of being able to pick a poster's relevant details at a glance, now I have to scan left and right.
For me, these two annoyances alone more than outweigh any supposed benefits from longer lines.
I don't s'pose there's any way to make this formatting user selectable in their Profile?

Took me by surprise too fellas, don't worry you'll get used to it :D.
Remember when cars turning left had to give way to cars turning right? Much more important than user information and affected many more people, things change and we adapt.

It has another advantage - if someone who doesn't like thumbnails embeds pictures in the text, the greater width of the text area wilol make it less likely that the picture will throw ofut the formatting for all posts in the thread. So I'm with the higher power on this one.

When I click a thread I only see the left 30% of the page with a scroll bar across the bottom. It started today and coincided with a Firefox update . This is the only site I've noticed doing it and I assume stems from your changes. Any idea of a fix? :- Thanks

Is this all threads or threads with Images?
Maybe your Firefox update didn't complete, try closing down the browser and start again.

All threads regardless, the forum and list of threads are unchanged but the individual thread is w...i...d...e ?

Looking through 6 or 7 forums on which I'm a member and which use vbulletin as their forums software, only one other has the user info listed vertically on the left of a post.
As long as the info is there, I for one don't care where it displays.

chage it back
its distracting having teh stuf at the top of every post. it forces you to read it before you couold just keep readign and only check who wrote what when u felt like it.
i could just keep readig before now i have to stop and start on teh topic again.
surely it can be made an option.

Along with this change I have noticed that the max size for a .jpg file is now 246.5 KB.
This is great IMHO.
I really like the opportunity to see bigger pix.
Thanks to all.
Couldn't resist a sample picture.

Ok, so the post format stays, fair enough.
Another quick question, has the attachment navigator been given the boot as well? Seems anytime I click on a thumbnail it immediately opens a new tab with the image but the really nice "next" and "previous" buttons are nowhere to be found :?

This seems to be a recent upgrade to VBulletin itself. The "New Tab" should open with an auxiliary bar below the address line, and can be deep-sixed from there to restore the thread view.
I'd become accustomed to Right click, and Open in a New Window, to reduce regen time for the Back function, and that still works too.
I'm using Firefox, and haven't used IE in ages, so YMMV.

Joe

I've hated it since it first came into existence, mainly because for me it was as slow as a wet weekend and I'm not the only one. Now it loads pics almost instantly. Sorry about the loss of next and previous buttons but for me (and I'm sure many others) I can now load 4 or 5 pics in less time than it took to load the first pic in the light box.
If it faster and better in the next upgrade, it may come back again. Next upgrade is supposedly going to handle graphics better than this one, but who knows.
Next upgrade is due out shortly so we'll see what comes. Waiting with baited breath.

Yes, I have the left 30% of that page on screen then I must scroll across to see the rest ?

Yeah it's a bit of a dog having all the user information way over on the right hand side. The eyes naturally flow down the page, now they have to flow down the page and way across to the right. Especially bad if you have a wide screen monitor.
As Skew said, is there anywhere in the user preferences to change it back?
Cheers,
Will

Phil, I'm not quite sure on what your problem is, really need more info from you.
Is it because the user info on each post in now on top and not on the left as it use to be?
What size screen do you have and at what resolution are you running it at?
Have you got the browser screen maximised or have you sized it down?
Can you do a screenshot to show what you mean?

Hi,
I agree with Skew.:2tsup:
Having said that, I see no point in arguing with the people in charge. At the end of the day it does not matter what I/we users think. I post less and less frequently. If these changes remain I will read less and less too. Breaking the flow of responses is really annoying as far as I am concerned. However, I appreciate that I am in the minority here.

DJ I've just opened Internet Explorer and it works great, full screen same as your screen shot, so it's a Firefox thing I'll have to fiddle with.:- Thanks for your help. P.

Hi
You can use the style selector located at the bottom left of your screen to select a style called Legacy Layout and the site will use the layout prior to the latest change.

This is one old dog who is happy to learn new tricks, I'll be keeping the updated version. I'm sure it won't take long for it to become second nature.

If they are in the body of writing instead of thumbnails and are big they can make the screen bigger than the moniter. .

we are all by nature in search of new and better ways to do things, hence the forum is a great way to share ideas and glean information from like minded mates.
I think we are lucky to have a bunch of wizards in charge, and as members, with their help and a little bit of determined application, there seems to be no obstacle we can't overcome.
let us always remember the effort these guys put in on a voluntary basis on our behalf, and remember that any changes they make are done for our benefit.
Thanks fellas, hope to see you all at the www show
