Installing a shower base.

I need to install a shower base and it appears that the bottom of the base has a 50mm threaded outlet but the waste pipe that i am connecting it to is 100mm. Can i simply run a piece of 50mm pipe so that it sits inside the 100mm waste pipe or do i have to reduce the 100mm pipe down to 50mm and then connect to the outlet of the base. The 2nd option becomes a lot more difficult as accesss under the house is virtually impossible.
