Something has died in an inaccessible space under our house, probably a rabbit or possum, how long does the smell last? weeks? months?

Ordinarily I'd say a week, at most a fortnight. If nature's cleaners (eg. maggots, vermin) can get to it, the quicker the smell goes.
However, I've had jobs where I've had to replacing heating ducts, etc. 'cos something died in there 6 months before... and even though the body is basically long gone, the heat of the air flowing over it "revives" the stink and, being a duct, carries it through the house.
That's a worst case scenario, though.

Can you send your dog under to eat it? Never seems to worry them.

Maybe it is the dog! When did you last see/feed him?

I once had something die under my front bedroom, the only
access under the house was through the bathtub, i still couldn't
get to it, so moved out the room and i reckon it lasted about a
month, i had an exhaust fan running out the window pretty much
all the time, and spread lots of nice smelly stuff around, i think it
was in my head but could still smell it for ages, it became the guest
bedroom:D I wonder if there's any way you could coax some ants
to get under there, they're pretty efficient.

 Wrong weather for flies. But the buzzing would be annoying.
No way you could get some lime or something else in there to hurry the process along?:?

If you filled the space with expanding foam, that should encase the cadaver and seal the smell in for good.

It would be just another one of many weird smells in my place.....
Cook a good curry, that'll change the tone for a while,

Throw your teenagers out of the house. That should reduce the overall smell by half at least.
