Does anyone know what these are?

Got these from my old man. He knows what they're for but not how to use them. So does anyone know what they are, and if so, how to use them? Apparently they are used with a rope for lifting, similar to a block and tackle.

There was a bloke at the Brisbane wood show last year selling them. They're a dolly for creating a mini pulley in a single rope, usually to put tension in a rope holding down a load on a truck.

They do look like the stuff that bloke was trying to sell at the Sydney show. Come to the show mate, he will show you how to lift 100,000 lbs with them.:p

Excellent, that's what I was hoping for.

Dad got them at the Candelo market. The bloke was using them to lift an engine block.

Did you buy some Wongo? You could use them lift those big cabinets you seem to like making :D

The bloke selling them really thought they were the bees knees - didn't see any steak knives, but the style was the same. Personally I've tied too many knots that do the same thing to bother spending $$$ on another gadget to lose in the boot of the car.

These are supposed to be for lifting though, not tying down. I suppose you could do similar with a truckies hitch or the like, but friction would be a problem.

For example, if you had to lift a log up, you're supposed to be able to do it with these gadgets working like a block and tackle.

True, lifting with a truckies hitch is possible, but hard work, where these would be easy. On the other hand if I need to lift something I get someone else to do it!
