I have been asked to remove a varnish finish from a small cot and paint it white.
Can anyone recommend the best method to remove the varnish?

Can you not just sand it lightly to provide a key for the paint? If you have to strip it, I would recommend a meths or white spirit compatible formula.

All depend on what sort of varnish. If it's shellac based as above, if oil based paint stripper if it's Estaple sand then critter.

I am very pleased to recommend this product; Citrus Strip.
It works as well as the really nasty products that burn your skin and kill brain cells but I think you could even eat this stuff! NO methylene chloride only citrus oil.
Yesterday I found out this stuff also keeps for years (5 in my case).
Good luck

Thank you gentleman for your input, I opted for a light sand which worked fine
