Mineral spirits and mineral turps aren't quite the same thing (both distillation products of petroleum with a little different makeup, both contain a mixture of many of the same solvents but in different proportions) but for the uses in the workshop you could consider them interchangeable.
Mineral spirits is also known as white spirits or Stoddard solvent which you will see listed on many of the msds as a solvent in finishes.
Cheers

Sorry to dig up an old'ish thread, but I'm trying to find mineral spirits that I can use on end grain cutting boards. I'm guessing Methylated Spirits isn't the right choice here.
Any idea where I can buy this stuff?
Thanks,
Af.

Don't you mean Mineral Spirits Oil? This what is generally used on chopping boards, usually available at most Pharmacists, is also known as Paraffin Oil.

DJ. is right. I use Parafin oil on spoons and boards.
Buy it at the supermarket.
