HI I'm a newbie, from Ulverstone Tasmania. I came across this site when searching for Libary Chair Plans, a great forum!:2tsup:

Hi Dabet

Welcome to the Forum.

You must have access to some great pieces of timber down your neck of the woods.

David

Hi Guys,

Yes we have some great timber here in Tas, but like everywhere else its getting more and more expensive, you need to network a bit to get the good deals. I belong to the North West Woodcraft Guild (Ulverstone) and we as a club are going down to Queenstown on Saturday to a mill, to have a tour of the mill and hopefully pick up some houn pine, maybe a bit of celery top pine. I came from victoria and would love to get my hands on some red gum, which I may do next time I'm over there. I have just got involved in woodcraft since I retired about 7 years ago, so I have had to learn a lot and still have heaps to learn. The guys at the club have been very patient, I should say very, very patient! Great to hear from you.:2tsup:

G'day David and a big welcome to the board. Retired huh? Well I reckon many of us are, but there are a couple of very young blokes about and I feel envious of them starting so early in life.

Hi Masoth,
I wonder how I had time to go to work before I retired, I still can't find the time to do all I want to do! Yes I agree these young starters will end up very talented craftmen or craftwomen. Some of the ladies in our club do some very fine furniture making and scroll work, and turning, one particular women (in her late thirties or early forties I think, I hope she doesn't read this) won 2 major prises in the Competition at our last Exhibition and Sale. She sederved to win, excellent standard.

Hi Munruben,

Yes they do and I agree, the greatest problem we have in Tassie is the fact that to get woodworking machinery etc we have to pay dearly for that bit of water! In fact I have just arranged for a mate to buy me a sander/linisher which I will pick up next time I'm in Melbourne.

Hi Terry,

G'dayTerry, G'day Ed,

Yes I wouldn't live anywhere else, the foods tops, the people great, the woods the best, what else can I wish for. I've been here now for 6 years and loving it!
