Howdy folks; I live near Malanda in the Atherton Tablelands (NQ), and like most blokes I dabble with little woodworking projects all the time. I'm looking forward to retirement in a year or two so much more time and effort can be devoted to this. My current problem is that I borrowed a friend's grinder with a Triton Random Orbital Sander attachment, and wrecked the pad. Part number OSA 029. I am having incredible trouble locating another to replace it. It seems Triton were bought out by GMC who have since gone into receivership.
Any help, advice or referral would be appreciated.Thanks.

G'dat Tony & welcome, I'm just down the road from you.
I can't help with the Triton parts.
I have ordered parts directly from Triton in the past but I don't know what the go is now.
Have you been to the web site?

Thanks Cliff; yes I've tried the website but no joy there so far. I actually purchased a Bosch product but this didn't fit the orbital attachment head, so it was back to the starting line again. I've emailed all of the Triton clubs in Aust that have an email address so maybe something will come of that. Good to hear from a 'local', thanks.

Tony,
unfortunately GMC/Triton have gone belly up. A hunt around places that previously stocked them may turn up a pad if you're really lucky, but I wouldn't want to bet on it. Otherwise it may be possible to find a pad for a pneumatic sander that is the same. Most of these came as 150mm though and from memory the Triton is 125mm (I used to have one). Good luck.

Thanks Mick; I've got lots of feelers out and hope that something will turn up before too long. Normally I don't borrow tools in case something happens (like this disaster) and I broke my own golden rule!
Regards, Tony.

G'day Tony and welcome to the fun.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:
Pity about the Triton/GMC troubles but there appears to be some hope for Triton at least.

Hi am welcome. I 'm afraid I can't help either other than to say just keep trying. You may be lucky and find the part in one of the stores that use to stock Triton.

Thanks for your encouragement. It seems I'm not alone in trying to find Triton spares eh? Tony2.

Hi Tony,
We have an outlet in Campbellfield (outer suburb of Melbourne) that has been selling GMC and Triton stuff for some time. I will make some enquiries to see if they can help. It may be next Wednesday (woodturning club day) before I can find out.
In the meantime will watch this thread in case others help first.

G'day Tony and welcome,
I asked our local Bunnings toolman about Triton just yesterday. He had only minutes before received a memo with the contact details of a company selling spare parts for GMC and Triton. So apparently spares are now available.
I don't have the details with me but will find out for you.
Regards, Kev

welcome Tony, Tolga is not that far down the road in slightly drier country! The info and help on this site is unbelievably good - take a bow all.

Hi Tony,
As promised I made some enquiries today with the outlet which
used to sell vast quantities of GMC and Triton products.
The boss told me they expect a consignment of products within
two weeks. Off hand he could not confirm that your part number
would be included.
He did also say that a former GMC employee and a former Triton
employee will be joining his staff in two weeks. He claimed that
these fellows have a vast knowledge of the GMC/Triton industry
and know where to source parts. This includes aftermarket/
non-genuine (my words) parts to fit those brands.
The company is:
GPT (Ghebrail Power Tools)
1860 Hume Highway
Campbellfield Vic.
Telephone (03) 9357-6168 (Ask for George).
Fax. (03) 9357-7915.
Hope this helps.

Allan, most sincere thanks for your very helpful assistance. I'll contact them tomorrow and start the ball rolling. I'll report back to the Forum on how things pan out, as it may also benefit others. Once again, many thanks, Tony.

Thanks for that Alan, might be an idea to post that information in the Triton/ GMC part of the forum.
