First I received a private message from Princess Sarah wanting to come over here from Africa to start a business with me, now there's Juliet wanting to find love:

Hello
Insearch of mr right not a player, today i viewed ur profile while i picked intrest in u for love.kindly reply me back in my private mail for my pictures and more.(juliet22abidemi at yahoo dot ca) .

I didn't think my avatar was a very good picture of myself. I suppose I can't blame her - she's only human.

Another scam?

Juliet was banned from the forum yesterday because one of the first dozen on the Members list reported the PM straight away.

Probably because you're 13th in line on the Members list you'll be in the firing line for these types of scams as they seem to get their choices from there so it certainly nothing to do with looks

We have problems with hundreds of the buggers. The forums are constantly under attack from spammers and other lowlife, scum-bags, like her and have been for ages. :~

Keeps the mods and admin on their toes 7 days and nights a week. Unfortunately every now and then one gets past us for a little while.

Reporting anything like this greatly helps us to keep on top of them, and gives some idea as to why we no longer allow multiple PM's or emails from the forums.

If they are using the members list maybe it should be available for mods/admins only. Does anyone use it? (other than spammers that is)

Yes, but very rarely. IIRC, I used it to cite an example of a poster that asked a question, had several replies, and vanished without response, when all I could remember was a User name. 'Twas in a thread about gratitude or such.

Waste of time not having the user list available.

Those who do this stuff know the ins and outs of forums and they all know about the invitation to PM or email every poster in every post.

The best bet is for those who get hit with a pm to report it asap and let the Admin team do their job. For what it's worth we're pretty good at sussing them out bedfore the actually get a chance to do their dirty work. But there are literally tens of thousands of them out there looking for an easy mark. There are programs freely available on the open marketand sold with the express aim of spamming and linking to forums to get hits and drive traffic to their sites.

If they only target the people on the first page of the user list then could you fill the page up with no ones?

Very astute. You might enjoy reading "Bodyguard of Lies," and other works on strategic deception.

Then no one would be around to report the PMs would they
