Hi Con,

Only guessing here, but possibly a dryer for black japanning. Thus a paint dryer/accelerator. Terebine is used to make linseed oil and traditional varnishes and oil based paints dry quicker. con, it's available at Cairns Hardware's paint shop.

As far as I know it is known as Japan Dries here also. Most shops won't have a clue what it is. It is a pretty strong drier used for slow drying paints and is usually used by the drop as if too much is added it can cause crazing and other nasty problems, it can also darken the colour somewhat.
Try a paint shop that deals with the trade and your local art supplies shop if they don't have it they should be able to order it in for you.
Hope this is of some help th you.
