Resawing beech

Hi all, I just joined up. I run an old ferry called Reliance on the Sydney Harbour. Our deck is getting loose and I was going to refasten it the normal way, but have decided to add a ply deck and sheath it with beech. I have been given some 6m lengths of Beech in 50x100 size and need to resaw it to 50x10mm strips. Knights in Sydney will resaw it, but advise that the kerf will be 4mm. Must be a better way. Anyone know someone in the Sydney region that can resaw more econmomically?

with a well set up bandsaw you should be down to 2-3 mm kerf . try some of your local timber yards ,or boatbuilders , its not that hard to do , cheers bob

A Spindle moulder with power feed and a thin kerf saw blade will eat that up. best part is you will get a ready to sand finish off the saw. No need to allow extra for thicknessing either. You just need to buzz and thickness the timber and buzz one edge and feed it through. A lot of shops will struggle with the six metres so if you can get away with shorter lengths it would be easier. We can do 6 metres but it involve moving machines

Thanks guys, probably the spindle moulder will be the best. I did'nt realise there was a powered version, sounds good. So I just take 10mm slices off the top of the plank, till we run out of thickness. Too Easy..:)
