Micro-Mesh - what am I doing wrong?

I bought a packet of micro-mesh, the ones with the little squares that are colour coded.

But when I use it (wet) it leaves the colour of the square on the wood!

What am I doing wrong?

It doesn't say about the colour running though? Or am I missing something?

I use micro-mesh alot.But only on the finish coats,not the raw wood.
You can sand the wood fine enough with the white aluminium oxide paper from most hardware stores.Sometimes I rub 2 sheets together to wear it out abit to get even smoother finish.Apply your finish and use the micro-mesh on that.
Very quick and easy finish .I also use their polish now

This won't help you much directly. i don't have any problem with MM colour running but mine is all grey. I guess if you can't solve your problem you could try buying the grey ones. Mine has the grit printed on the back so you don't need the colour code. I use it wet all the time with no problems.

that would have been preferable, the colour chart is hard to follow. Some of the colours are so close to each other and some of them don't relate to the actual colours on the pads!

mostly I use it on finish, but I have been known to use it dry on bare wood. Some of the harder woods can literally polish to a mirror sheen before you apply any finish. It's really easy to get a nice finish over the top of that. I got mine from Arizona Silhouette in the USA ages ago. They don't post overseas anymore but MM lasts for ages if you wash it occasionally. I have seen the grey ones available on other US websites. Mine isn't pads - it's more like a cloth sheet. I got a pack of 7 sheets from 2400 up to 12000 grade. It's about 2" x 4" or so.

Just thought of another thing Eliza.If you were sanding the wood with a wet pad,the wood is soaking up the water as well.This causes the timber to swell.I would think if you put a finish over the top of that you would get some type of trouble.

OK SO They are mostly a bluey sort of color a greeny one and a grey one.

The Micro mesh and acrylic sanding pads can be used wet or dry.

When using on timber they are best used dry and when used on acrylics best used wet.

I have spoken with Kerry the Sandpaper Man at length about MM which I purchased from him. I can assure you he is very knowledgeable and really takes an interest in his product.

I am still learning how to use the product. Their website has info on MM.
