A question about extension cords

I need to run an extension cord to my shed temporarily until I get the power on, trouble is the distance from the plug to the shed is about fifty metres and the longest cord I can find is thirty metres, is it safe to join extension cords together, I know you can get holders to keep extension cord plugs together once joined so I guess it must be safe to do so, just wondering if anyone knows wether there is a safe limit to the length you should go that was all ... thanks. :)
