Great stuff, what an interesting and informative site this is, I'm so glad I found it.
I'm a new home owner (with 5 children) and like many other new home owners our new abode needs some work on it before we are able to move in. The main thing needing immediate attention are the floors as the carpets were removed by the last owners and the floors left "as is" while they continued living in it.
The house settlement is next week ...:o... so I'm doing all the research I can at the moment on wood floor treatments which is how I came accross this site. I now feel so much better informed about the various floor treatments available and this is just my first day here. I'd also like to thank every-one here, the professionals and the non-professionals alike for their most generous contributions to this forum and I hope that, in time, my new renovating experiences will also contribute in some way to the wealth of combined knowledge and information this site has to offer...:B

Probably need to punch nails, sand and then decide on a suitable coating, of which there are plenty.

When I was a nippper and we were so poor we lived in a cardboard box, it was a sign of poverty to have timber floors. They were thus treated with layers of lino, Feltex or, if money was no object, carpet. How times have changed!!

WOW, thanks for the warm welcome every-one... oops, I meant to post in the "reno" forum, I might do a cut and paste over there too then...but I reckon this can be a happy mistake because I have big plans for some of our furniture after I move. Much of my household furniture needs some kind of attention, a job I've been so looking forward to getting my teeth into for yonks. Some pieces such as my old kitchen dresser/cupboard and dining table are screaming for attention so much so that even the children have asked if we could "do it up" after we move.

we've moved 5 times in 6 years...some of my cardboard boxes I have become very fond of, it will be sad to say goodbye to them...:yeahright:...lol
