I have some jarrah furniture and a merbau table on my patio. I have treated them with Wattyl Decking Oil - and once tried Cabots, both tung oil based.. Wattyl gives a far better finish and dries much better.
You will need to recoat every year. I first applied 3-4 coats over two days, then I top up each year with a light wipe over/light sand where necessary and two more coats. After five years in all weather, the furniture stands up pretty well. Both timbers just glow under oil - particularly after fresh coats -and the finish is pretty tough.
I am prepared to re-oil each year because I prefer the natural appearance to more synthetic finishes.
I am sure others more experienced will have some suggestions worth considering.

Sikkens make some excellent products for outdoor timber use - they tend to be very long lasting, reducing the frequency of recoating etc...

You will need to check out independent paint product suppliers - to my knowledge it is not stocked in Bunnies and the like. Worth chasing down if you can find it.

Otherwise, its thumbs up for the Wattyl.
