At 1 AM on the 3rd of February 50 years ago, Roger Peterson took off on an approx 100 Mile charter flight in a Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft.
He charged his passengers $36 US Dollars each for the flight.
Two miles from the airport, Roger flew the plane into the ground.
The only reason that we remember Roger, is that his three passengers were :

JP Richardson.
Richie Valens and,
Buddy Holly.

I remember when I heard the news, ( On the 4th in those days) and as a 16 yr old boy I was buggered. My first hero was mortal.

To quote Don McLean......The day The Music Died.

Dunno Peter,
I'd like to think that it was......but net research just gives me the Plane Number.
I'd love it to be true........otherwise....why the song title??

The rest of us would love to help here but we're kind of caught up with a small tool.

Cheers Fred

Noel,

This was according to Billy Pinnel, the resident music guru regularly appearing on 3AW. It was on the Sunday afternoon program.

Whilst you can't believe everything you hear I don't think Billy Pinnel would make this up.
