Hey all, im new and need some help!!!

Hi,

I am new to this forum and need some help.

I am not sure if anyone on here can help me, but I have recently purchase a Ceiling Fan with Light to replace my existing light fixture.

I am having some difficulty installating the fan to get the light to work.

Wires are as follows:

Fan has: Green/Yellow (ground/earth), Blue (neutral), White (light active), Brown (fan active).

I am using the original wires from my light switch (red and black) to connect the new switch (fan/light) but I am only getting the Fan to work but not the light and if I play around with the wiring, I am able to get the fan and light to work at the same time, but I want them to be controller seperately, one or the other.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have installad the fan etc I just reqire someone to tell me how to wire the switch up so I can control the fan and light seperate, I am trying to avoid calling a sparky for a 2 minute thing if someone here can help me.

It is illegal to do your own electrical wiring (see Home Building Act 1989 and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2004). Apart from potentially killing yourself, you are not covered by your house insurance if you manage to burn the house down and the assessor discovers it was caused by your faulty wiring. If a licensed electrician comes onto your property in the future and discovers that you have done your own wiring, he is obliged to report a non-complying installation and you may have your service disconnected and/or receive a fine or prison sentence.

Apart from the fact that you should have a sparky at least check your wiring , you will need 2 switches to control the light & the fan separately. That means at least 1 more wire down to the switch.

Thanks for the replies guys and I will be getting my sparky mate to do it, I thought it may simply be a change over with the standard light fixture wiring to the fan, but obviously this is not the case so I will not try it.
