View Full Version : Gold Coast Australia Day BBQ

Been talking to Ruffly today and thought it would be a good idea to have another SEQ forumite BBQ. I'm away for Feb, and so are quite a few others, so I thought Australia Day would be perfect.

Soooo, Monday 26 January 2009 from 10am onwards at my place :2tsup:. Family members welcome

Ok, I'm thinking I'll provide some marinated lamb kabarbs, and maybe some chicken ones as well, plus good old sausages.

Therefore I need someone else to bring:

Bread
Salads - a few different types please
Nibbles
Deserts - Since it is Aus Day, how about Pavlova???
Anything else to eat :?

Everyone should also bring what ever they want to drink. But I will have plenty of water for those that forget :U

What to do, well I'm thinking of just sitting back chewin the fat and doing the usual door prize thing we usually do. So bring something you have spare, or have made to give away, timber, basically anything you may think someone else might appreciate :p. Hopefully it will be hot and we can get the pool volleyball going

Post here if you are interested, if you don't know where I live, and what you will bring to eat etc.

Next week I will sent a PM with my address to those of you that have never been here.

:aussie5:

Okay Neil.
I'll be there this time.
I'll bring some loaves of home-made bread and a lemon meringue pie.
An adjustable shooting board for a door prize and some lumps of timber for the turners-- pink bloodwood, lychee, maybe mulberry.

Anybody want a lift from the Sunshine Coast? One seat free in the ute.

Eh, I think they wife has plans already :C. Plus, we went through Nerang two weeks ago!! That was our obligatory annual trip to the beach for the boys :P Not that it was a great day, given it rained most of the time, and the lifeguards had heart attacks when our boys went into the water...

Things may change, not sure when I'll know though.

Just found out that the Barbie we are going to is at night, so I can come along. Will see if swmbo can bang up one of her trifles. Should be able to rustle up something for a door prize.

I'm coming from Kenmore, so can give anyone in the West a lift down.

Hi Eliza,
Not that it will give you much comfort, a stranger offering a lift, but I could give you a lift down. It's a nice safe new model Prado. Besides, it would be nice to have company to keep me awake, I have trouble staying awake driving...

Oh, did I say that out loud?

Well it is still raining here :rain2::~.

The timber chairs & table outside are soaked. Everything was already wet yesterday, so it wasn't worth putting up the tarps. I've grabbed all the dry deck chairs & stools etc and arranged around the family room. I think we may be eating off the pool table rather than outside :-. The shed might get a wee bit cramped, even more than usual

Rain rain go away come again another day ...................

dai sensei
26th January 2009, 06:58 PM
Well it stopped raining at 9am :hpydans2:and the sun even came out once or twice during the day. We had a short sprinkle for 5mins in the arvo and that was it :2tsup:

I started skewering the Kabarbs at 8am, but it wasn't until about 11am that I finished and nearly everyone was here. Basically there was heaps of door prizes and bragging items that kept everyone amuzed while I finished getting everything ready :-. We then had morning tea of cakes, biscuits, lamingtons etc etc (I still have a whole chocolate cake and another caramel cake left over in the fridge :o)

We headed down the shed for the compulsary tour, cut up some timber scraps for the scalpers (or should I say pen turners :U), then FC tried out "the" plane. Then I headed back to the pergola to start cooking lunch.

Lunch time and we fed our faces on HEAPS of yummy food before relaxing and yacking some more. We then did our traditional Queenslander door prixes session - no-one can do it as good :U. They were on top of, underneath, and around the pool table. At least 2 rounds of the names in the hat - big lumps of timber, books, pens, home made tools and bought ones, Wendy's leather folders, turning blanks etc etc the list goes on.

After the food had only just gone down, whilst yacking some more, we all got stuck into the deserts - pavlova, trifle, lemon marang pie :ok:.

This meet was more about just hanging back relaxing and yacking more than demos and I for one had a ball :2tsup:

Photos follows, cheers gang
