Good Morning Mates,
When you have to store chisels in a drawer or toolbox with other tools, the sharp edges often get chipped or dulled.

They'll still be sharp enough to gash your fingers when you reach in there though.

What would you do to remedy this situation?

Respectfully, ;)

Wear Gloves...

Don't store them in drawers... hang them on the wall or in the cupboard....

Use the little plastic edge guard cover that comes with the chisel... or buy a set if needed...

Stick the ends in old wine corks (dried) ... (Use champagne corks for the really expensive chisels.)

Wrap a bit of cardboard over the edge and tape it on...

Stich up a leather cover guard....

Cut up bits of clear plastic tubing and flatten them to use...

etc etc...

Bury them in the garden.:)

Put them blade up in an engineers vice, go out to the garden where you've buried your dangerous cold chisels and dig one up - taking extreme care of the dull pointy end. Apply the cold chisel to the sharp end of the chisels with the assistance of a hammer or mallet until you can run your thumb along the cutting edge of the chisel without drawing blood. Put the chisel in your tool box and bury the cold chisel. Before next use make sure to sharpen them again on the waterstones – repeat process before putting them away. It’s best to be safe after all

The few chisels I own are kept in their own box.

I would never chuck em in a draw with other tools.

Biting Midge,

Is that blood on one of your scary sharp cold chisels?

Why do you keep them in your garden? Where do you keep your tomatoes?

Good Afternoon Mates,
It is 10:06 PM my time so I am going to answer the quiz.

Tonz, had the correct answer or at least the one I was looking for by cutting various pieces of plastic tubing and flattening them and sliding them over the chisel blades.

Good job Tonz.

Thank you all for your support.

Respectfully, ;)

No. It's paint, must have copped a splatter opening a tin.....(sigh). BTW, the one with the red marks is actually a wood working chisel!

Where do you keep your tomatoes? In the fridge with the rest of the food. Where do you keep yours?

:D

I don't like them so I give them all to Rodney Marsh...
