If he's drunk he reached that desirable state because he was studying applied chemistry. The branch that deals with the use of fermentation in brewing.

Hello Mates,
My question is, why do these famous people even change their names in the first place?

Like the singing cowboy of years gone by, Roy Rogers, who's real name was Leonard Sly, and the late Johnnie Paycheck who sang "Take this job and shove it". who's real name was Donnie Lytle. Kind of make you wonder huh?

silentC

Kind of make you wonder huh

I'll take that as the next quiz question. My answer: yes it does. Which is correct, so it's my turn.

What's the hardest bone in the human body?

Susan Sarandon played "Janet" in the Rocky Horror Picture show but who played "Brad"? and what is his more political based better known acting role?

silentC
5th May 2004, 09:45 AM
Wrong!! Strictly speaking, not a bone...

Hint: It's surprisingly easy to break...

Eastie
5th May 2004, 10:08 AM
It’s the femur (or yer teeth - take your pick but teeth aren't bones - they's teeth.).

Can I ask a question or does this question count as my question?

:D

craigb
5th May 2004, 10:08 AM
Your skull?

Tonz
5th May 2004, 10:10 AM
Well ok then, sticking strictly to actual bones I'd go for the femur...

Broke mine in a car accident when I was 17. It broke right at the top and couldn't be plated. Ended up in traction for 8 weeks...

silentC
5th May 2004, 10:10 AM
All wrong

This bone is the strongest because of the leverage required in it's use.

silentC
5th May 2004, 10:19 AM
Actually, I'll have to pay femur because some sources say it is the "longest, strongest bone in the human body". :o

If you were playing Trivial Pursuit, the answer would be the mandible, or jaw bone....

Your turn Eastie...

Tonz
5th May 2004, 10:19 AM
This might be a case for your intrepretation of "strong" There are thousands of links on the internet all saying the femur is the strongest bone namely because of it's sheer size.

Taking the skeleton system as a whole the fingernail enamel is considered to be the toughest substance...

Eastie
5th May 2004, 10:26 AM
There is much mischievousness in your ways - it must be the jaw bone. At this point I declare that I am in fact right and will pose another question. If in the next couple of minutes Silent can give reason otherwise I'll edit it out.

Ok – what has earth got in three differnent states that some other planets in out solar system have in only one (or perhaps two but definitely not three).

Susan Sarandon played "Janet" in the Rocky Horror Picture show but who played "Brad"? and what is his more political based better known acting role?

Eastie

Barry Bostwick - renowned for his role in the political thriller "Weekend at Bernies 2" :D

silentC
5th May 2004, 10:46 AM
Now be honest, did you know that or did you look it up in IMDB?

Tonz
5th May 2004, 10:53 AM
Correct although I was referring more to his role as Mayor Randall Winston in the series "Spin City".

He's certainly aged a bit since 1975... (But thewn haven't a lot of us...)

Well an easy one.

The North side of my town faced east and the east was facing?

And what am I

Tonz
5th May 2004, 01:33 PM
But I'm a substitute for another guy
I look pretty tall but my heels are high
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated, yeah

Substitute your lies for fact
I can see right through your plastic mac
I look all white, but my dad was black
My fine looking suit is really made out of sack

I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth
The north side of my town faced east, and the east was facing south
And now you dare to look me in the eye
Those crocodile tears are what you cry
It's a genuine problem, you won't try
To work it out at all you just pass it by, pass it by

Probably highly debatable and a question of symantics but...

Which is the tallest mountain on Earth??

craigb
5th May 2004, 02:45 PM
Well as the obvious answer would be Everest, I guess you must be thinking of one under the ocean?

Eastie
5th May 2004, 02:57 PM
Everest is the highest above sea level - I recall from geography many moons ago that the tallest from base to tip is in Hawaii - don't know what it's called though?

Tonz
5th May 2004, 03:03 PM
I think technically Everest is the tallest (It certainly is the highest) Offically the term mountain refers only to mountains above sea level.

However some will argue the highest mountain is Mauna Kea in Hawaii at 10,204m but most of it is under sea level. Everest is 8848m.

you guys can decide who was right...:)

Heres a 3 parter.

Part 1: Who sang the song. The Anahiem, Azusa and Kookamungra sewing circle, book review and timing association.

Part 2: What was the last line of the song.

Part 3: What hit song, by the same artist(s) did the the last line of the song come from.

And yes it really is a song and was a reasonable size hit in the 60's.

Cheers - Neil

PS for the spelling Nazi's. I have no idea what the correct spelling is for the towns named in the song and personally I don't care.

Well, I must admit I was wondering about this myself. I guess the answer is yes and no. It really depends on the question. Some of these questions are not likely to be guessed correctly and looking them up may well be the only alternative... At least to keep the thread moving along anyway...

But then again, it's just a bit of fun after all and we all get to learn something new or interesting regardless of where it came from...

woodworking terms...

what are a "beetle" and "froe"

silentC
6th May 2004, 01:24 PM
They're tools used by bodgers to split logs. The beetle is like a big mallet and the froe is a metal blade on a wooden handle. You hit the froe with the beetle to drive it into the log. Article in a woodworking mag I read the other day.
