Judging by the question, I'm going to hazard a guess and say it hasn't been removed....

Well folks, we seem to have stalled, 24 hrs and no questions. I'm going to take the liberty of posing a question to get the ball moving again. If you feel it was your turn please feel free to disregard my question and post another.

As this thread takes on a life of its own during he week, and thee ain't no way i can keep up, i'll offer the answer to allow things to keep rolling.

The flux used, is simply sand, i guess it's the silica in it that does the actual fluxing, but there you go.

mallet and a blunt chisel
Curiously the mallets had very long heads, and the "blunt chisels" (caulking irons) came in all sorts of sizes and offsets to allow the caulking to happen in wierd corners.

I reckon all the answers were near enough though. (Pity Ralph didn't give it a go...)

So it's five persons' turn to ask questions then :D :D

A former star of a cult sci fi TV show wrote a children's book in 1999 in which the main character came to an unhappy end in a tree. Who was it and what was the title of the book?

AlexS
20th May 2004, 10:07 PM
Mark,
Mainly, both the chisel and the 'chops' are used by a wood sculptor.

This is what Garret Wade has to say about it.
"A vice which was designed for the woodcarver is the Scopas Chops. It is made of wood, with deep jaws and protective leather strips, and has a steel screw and nut and another screw which passes through a hole in the bench top to secure the vice."
I flick passed to Silent because the topic had gone on for a day and he was
homing in on it.
I suspect the Scopas Chops (possibly with a wooden screw) predates the machinists vice.

OK, well the TV show was/is a very long running one that has used a somewhat unique way of allowing different actors to play the same character over the years. The book is not really a children's book but is written in the style of one.

Gumby
24th May 2004, 04:23 PM
from memeory, it isn't quite that simple. They originated from Collie breeds imported from Scotland and after a bit of cross breeding and interbreeding, the Kelpie was created. I've got one, and she's a pain in the **** !
