Hello all.
Just thought I would introduce myself. I'm new to woodworking, so I cannot profess to have any areas of expertise. My main interest is boatbuilding, my wife and I are part the way through building our 12.2 metre cruising catamaran in Townsville, it is a full composite cat, foam core and glass.
As such I started out as a "modern" composites follower, believing that organic material had no place on our boat. Since starting upon this journey I have learnt a lot, and not least is that wood is not just to be used as a convenient material to build temporary forms and finish benchtops with.
Wooden Boat magazine has opened my eyes to the beauty and versatility of wood, so much so that I am now somewhat a convert. Having said that I am aware of equal snobbery on both sides of the timber and composites divide, and I happily reside somewhere in between.
I have come here to hopefully avail myself of the years of knowledge that the members of the forum willingly share, and who knows, I may be able to help some poor soul afflicted with boatbuilderitis myself.
Many thanks in advance.
