I think the easiest way to work this one out is to break the big word down into little words or part thereof.

BIODETERIORATION = BIO DETER IO RAT ION

OK. We will start with BIO meaning self as in BIOGRAPHY
Next is DETER well we all know what this one means. To discourage, put off, dissuade.
This is closely followed by IO This is a reference to a Greek goddesses. Io was the daughter of the river god Inachus. Jupiter fancied her but his wife Juno was not into the open marriage thing
RAT is a small furry rodent and an ION is of course a charged atom or molecule.

OK we are now well positioned with this information and we should now be able to ascertain the full meaning of the word biowhatsit using the above. So:…
I am scared of goddesses ratting on their charges. Hmm… lets try paraphrasing that.

BIODETERIORATION; The breaking down of timber by natural or biological action such as fungi and insects.

Though I ain't timber I sometimes feel that I am being biodeteriorationing, especially when I go to the bathroom.
