View Full Version : Has anyone had problems with Timbecon?

I placed an order with Timber Gone which they acknowledged almost three weeks ago. I expected the order to arrive in about a week which seems to be the norm when ordering on-line from other stores (Red Box and Elraco delivered the following day!).
After ten days, I emailed Timber Gone again to establish if my order had actually been dispatched and when I would likely receive it. No answer came the reply! I emailed them again yesterday and still no response.
Is this typical of Timber Gone, or am I just unlucky?

G'day Woodwould,
I think you're just unlucky this time. I've bought heaps of stuff from Timbecon - had a few problems with some of the orders (as you'd expect), but they were always responsive and fixed the issues without too much drama. I did find it necessary to call them a couple of times - not because they didn't reply to emails but just to clarify complex situations.
Good luck,
Adam

They do have telephone - <table class="" border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>
</td> <td>1300 880 996</td></tr></tbody></table>and they answer that.

I don't like using the phone, and after communicating with them initally by email, I don't see why my transaction can't continue that way.
At the bottom of the advice notice they emailed me, they provide their order-related email address (along with their phone numbers too). When one orders on-line and responds to their email, one would expect them to reciprocate.

I have had dealings with Timbecon and have found them very responsive and prompt.
However, this was before they were sold so maybe the new management isn't quite so responsive?
Anyway, if I didn't get a response to my emails I would pick up the phone and ask why.
Emails are easily ignored, maybe the staff member responsible is on leave, or on sick leave or whatever.
Phones always get answered.

They seem a bit hit-and-miss - if you get them on a good day they are great, but if the idiot cousin is in, then you can get anything - at least that has been my past experience with them.
I try to avoid buying from them over the 'Net, and just stick to what I can pick up at the annual WWW show, where it gets placed in my sticky little hands rather than having to rely on them remembering to send me something. There is very little that they stock that can't be bought from some other outlet for near the same price and less stress.

I did end up ringing them which was just as well because even though I received acknowledgement of my order via email three weeks ago, for some reason it all ended right there.

I've had trouble with them on several occasions and not just on delivery's either...

How disappointing for you.
There is nothing worse than saving your hard earned money for an item and then the excitement of ordering it. The next few days are occupied with you keeping an eye out for the delivery only to find out some moron storeperson is far less enthusiastic than yourself.
Statements to them such as "If I didn't want it you idiot - I wouldn't have ordered it and paid for it in the first place" just don't seem to penetrate.
I have not had dealings with this company and perhaps you have just been unlucky or perhaps this is the way they normally operate.
Keep us posted Woodwould because I doubt if many of us enjoy being let down. We can judge their service by your experience.
Hopefully it will all be rectified quickly.

Few years ago they were a bit hit and miss but since then I've not had any orders go west. All promptly posted and as per description.
Course humans make mistakes; the quality of a retailer can best be judged by how they respond to them.

Hi WW,
Like others have said, I also have had both good and 'not so good' experiences with them, mostly good I must admit, but,... when you come accross the wrong person with less knowledge about tools than your Granny and they have an 'attitude' it does put a bad taste in your mouth.
I did order something, ages ago now, was told it would be in store in 3 days, two weeks later still no item, then no record of order, then got told I made the mistake and that I never ordered it as they don't even stock it.
Eventually, after asking for the manager the order was found but they had not processed it, (same result as yours WW). I declined the offer to re-order and have never set foot in the door again. (That is just me being a crancy old sod, not keen on ignorant, lazy people being rude to me). Not a bad experience as such, just disappointing and a waste of my time to visit three times for nothing.
Hell I could have spent that itme in the shed or sampling a cold one or too.
So I can't complain really and I am a bit smarter about ordering stuff these days, get a name, order number and call before returning to shop. Am not a big fan of the internet purchase method from anybody much, apart from Lee Valley of course.
Hopefully, unlike me, you will not let one mishap order put you off dealing with them.
Cheers

It's a month to the day since I placed my order and still nothing arrived from WA. I realise there's a bit of sand between Victoria and WA, but this is ridiculous!
I called Timber Gone this afternoon and was told my parcel was collected by the couriers eight days ago. A return phone call confirmed there was "a problem with the address". Their fault or the courier's, I don't know, but it's a pretty poor example of logistics if they aren't notified of a package that's undeliverable.
I know what my answer will be the next time someone criticises me for purchasing from overseas!
