Sealing arcs, skirts, etc.

Hi there, I hope someone can give me a few tips or tricks of the trade. We're owner building our house and taking on a lot of the work ourselves. I'm the lucky one (or stupid one) who volunteered to do all the painting. What I would like is any info on sealing the arcs, skirts and all other gaps around windows and doors. I've had a bit of a practice in the walk-in-robe (where it's not too obvious) with a gap sealant. It didn't turn out too bad but I'm just wondering if there are any...
