Polishing concrete

Not being terribly happy with the finished surface of the slab I did for my workshop, I was thinking about hiring a concrete grinder and 'sanding' a smidge of the top, just to smooth it out a bit. I've never used a concrete polisher before, are they easy enough to handle, or am I likely to just make things worse?
