I have to fill some defects in my cyprus pine floor before recoating. Some of them are at least 5-8 mm deep and upto 100mm long on the edges of a couple of boards.

I have searched the forum and couldnt find anything applicable.

What would be an appropriate filler to use in such a hard wearing environment?

Two products come to mind.

The first being Timber Mate, which is available from Bunnings and to make it even sweeter is the fact that it comes in a colour called Cypress Pine.

Secondly, you can use HB Fullers 'Caulk in colours' which once again, comes in a colour pretty damn close to Cypress. This particular product is awesome if you feel that it's possible the floor may continue to shrink and expand over time, as the product is flexible and therefore won't crack and fall out.

I have used Agnews water putty on weatherboards before (not floors ) and it was a pain. It sets very hard but is totally inflexible, so that after a couple of years normal movement of the timber, the putty is lifting out. I will never use it again.
