Hi, My Name is David, and I'm a Toecutter.
Well, that's not strictly true, but you know how it goes...
I live in Tempe with my girlfriend, but we're moving out of Sydney soon, we've got a ute and we're building a yurt and we want to travel around rural NSW staying on friend's properties, WWOOFing, and working sporadically.
A yurt, if you're unfamiliar, is a Mongolian or Russian style of temporary dwelling. I went to Mongolia in 2005 and reverse engineered them into my notebook. I have also done a lot of research online, the best being here:
http://simplydifferently.org/
I have a lot of questions to do with what types of wood would be best for different uses (like the lattice fence which goes around the yurt may be touching the ground, etc...)
My dad was a really keen (albeit hobby) woodworker, who taught me a lot of the basics. I have been accumulating hand-cranked tools so I can do a lot of the work without power, as I expect in the future to be building off the grid! I am looking for information about where to find and how to use these tools also!
Any and all help will be gratefully appreciated!
Best Wishes,
David
