G'day guys
Since the beginning of the year I’ve been working for myself as a fabricator/welder and I’ve been operating without any insurance cover at all. I need to get covered because of 1) its been very silly of me to go for this long without it, and 2) I have some prospective customers that will require me to at least have public liability and workers comp.
I don’t have the time to organise things myself so it will be the wife that needs to chase it all up for me. To make it as easy as possible for her I told her to contact NRMA assuming that they would be able to arrange everything through one person but it wasn’t the case. They do this but don’t do that, then you need to call a different department for this etc…. I was surprised that such a big company didn’t have a simpler system. Anyway then I told her to call some of the brokers in the area once again thinking that she’d be able to do everything while only dealing with one person. Wrong again.
Anyway I wont rant too much. I just need some advice of what you guys who are self employed do. I was after cover on, public liability, workers comp, business (theft of tools, me stuffing up other peoples property etc). I’d also like to get home and contents if they can give a good deal on the whole lot.
Any info on your dealings with insurance would be appreciated.
