Paddy had been drinking more than his share at the
pub but still decided to have "just one more" before
leaving for home. This became another, then another etc.
He then decided to leave but was in worse condition than
he thought. Nevertheless he felt that if he could just make
it to the exit door of the pub the fresh air would help him.
With great difficulty he held on to furniture and staggered
and made it to the doorway.
Once out the door things were not too good but thought if he could
just crawl or scramble across the road he may sober up
a bit. He managed to finally get to the other side but still
had two blocks between there and home.
He does not remember how but managed to get home in
one piece and crawl into bed without waking his wife.
In the morning his wife said, "You were drunk last night"
and of course Paddy denied it and asked, "Why would
you think that?"
She replied, "Because the pub owner rang to say you
left your wheelchair behind when you went home".
