Welcome to this forum, just like Ed said, this forum is the best place to be.
Good advice from your doctor to stay busy, I was a mechanical engineer too in my working life, the first thing I did after my retirement 7 years ago was woodturning.
For sure you'll like it here.

Thanks for the replies, I use a lot of routers for all my work. Just finish a set of kitchen cabinets for lady who had water damage from the last storm we had. Use routers for all the joints. Got to build new router table because it could not take the weight of the big plunge router I using, so I'm going to make it with 2 - 3/4 mdf and 2- 1/4 hardborad. How let it bow on me. Going to start building a portable saw mill, was going to buy some plans, but I'm going make my own design.

Welcome aboard, ajh359.

I'm also a retired engineer (civil & structural). My involvement in mechanical engineering was mostly peripheral to drawbridge design and construction.

Before you re-invent the wheel for a portable sawmill, have a browse in the Small Timber Milling section. There are some dandy contraptions devised by members.
