I have noticed lately when I open a thread with pics that the thumbnails dont always work, not been a real concern, but now having all sorts of trouble with the box comp thread. If the page loads, it loads very slowly and most of the thumbnails wont load for me. All very frustrating, is it me/mycomputer/my internet? I am on satelite.

Please help, I was looking forward to spending a lot of time perusing the lovely entries, and am getting very frustrated:C

G'day Donna,
There is a fault in the box comp for entry# 8 where the thumbnails don't work for that entry.......that was my fault........ but all the others work OK.
I will fix that tonight.

Is it happening on other threads?

watson, the first picture of all the entries don't work either.

Donna, read this post http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showpost.php?p=798114&postcount=5

I read that post earlier and tried it but to no avail. Funnily enough the thumbnails for number 8 are viewable, as is the very last thumbnail in the post. Cant find another post where the thumbnails dont work for me, but I know there have been some. I might just have to download each pic individually to my computer so I can have a good look and compare them.

And when I say that the thumbnails dont work, what I mean is, I dont get the thumbnail picture, just the square with the red x in it.

Strange then that my sister (a non member) was able to view the pics in this (http://woodworkforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=76252&page=2) thread:?

Or maybe she was lying....

That would be because they're hosted on photobucket and not here on WWF's server

Just downloaded firefox, and the page is loading HEAPS faster, but still same prob with the thumbnails except no boxes or little red x's, just the click here for larger image thing.

Limited image access to guests/visitors here has been variable for the past year or so. On two other forums using VBulletin (AAW & SMC), no access for visitors, ever AFAICT. A while back, Neil (the benevolent dictator) advised that heavy server traffic of downloading pics persuaded him to institute the present policy. Photobucket might, or might not, be different.

Another problem could be shared domains which don't provide unified login unless you tick "Remember Me." (I think)

Just been in and checked it out. I can see all pics and thumbnails and all thumbs enlarge when clicked.

Logged out and cleared cache. Could still see all main pice but not allowed to see the thumbs.

Logged back in as a normal member and could see everything as before.

I'm using firefox 3. Tried the same thing with IE 6x, Opera, and Safari and got the same results with each one.

Must admit that IE was slow loading the pics and I'm running high speed cable. Wouldn't want to be waiting for the download on anything slower. It's possible the problem is nothing more than slow download of the pics.

Cheers - Neil :U

Anybody else still having trouble with the box images? Normally I can see images fine, but not the boxes. And I can still only see the thumbnail for entry 8, not the big image. I'm using Firefox 3 and have logged out and tried both woodworkforums.com.au and the -ubeaut- alternative too. both the same result.

Cheers

Please note that entry #8, the thumbnails are attached as Images which means that the size you see them at is the size they are at, whereas thumbnails open to a bigger Image.

The original images for Entry #8 have been misplaced and a new set of images are coming but could be a few days forthcoming.

I was able to view all of the thumbnails (except #8) but my first pic of 5pics doesn't appear to be loaded even though poor Noel believes he has loaded it. I noticed on other entries that the first pic is also often named as ".2". In my case (says he retaining box anonymity) my pics 2 to 5 are visible and openable but pic 1 is not there ... and pic1 is the best pic!
Nonetheless, I am very pleased to have entered, the standard is brilliant and I don't know that I would have done anything different even if I knew that I could have had til the end of August to complete it.
what fun......

Fletty, could you go and have another look and see what you see now, new pics have been uploaded by me, you should see a main pic and 4 thumbnails except in the case of entry #8 of which is 1 main Pic, 1 Thumbnail & 2 Attached Images

Hi DJ,
still only 2, 3, 4, and 5 are visible on mine and on the others where the pic name includes a number.
On my computer, 'my' post has the window at the top for the entry number and then only 4 windows under the text with the pic numbers for 2 to 5.
I hate causing all of this trouble though!

Have you tried doing a Hard Refresh {ctrl-refresh} or {ctrl-shift-refresh}

They should be all showing, you might be looking at a Cached page.

I've had a problem with viewing thumnails for a while now, and thought it was something bodgy with my home computer.

I can see all thumnbails on my work pc, which is running IE 6. But miss a lot on my home PC, which is running IE 7. At the moment, I can only see thumbnails 3 & 4, of post 8, on the box pics thread. However, they will all open to the full size image, when clicked. Last time I looked at this thread, I could see more thumbnails (but not all). Tried all the normal things, such as refreshing cache, and being logged into both sites.

I'm still looking to find a problem with my setup.

Still can't see the box thread as I was earlier and I haven't changed anything. I tried in safari too and it's the same except that the link to the very first box image in entry 1 asks me to log in, which I already am, and will not let me view that image. Getting a bit frustrated now.

Cheers
Michael

Also noticed that there are links for all the larger images, that would have been thumbnails, but nothing for the image that loaded full size in the body of the text??

I'm usin g a mac with firefox 3 or safari, done nothing here.

Ok mic-d, what url are you signed in under?

If you're signed in on the http://www.woodworkforums.com and the pics are hosted on the http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au and you're only signed in on the first one, the pics will not show up which is why it's asking you to sign in again. There is also a third url as well http://www.woodworkforums.com.au. If you keep yourself signed in on all three as I do and tick the remember me box, that may fix all of yours and everyone else that is having a prob with viewing pics.

This could also be why some pics are showing and some are not as some pics have been uploaded at difference times and may have been on one url and some on the other.

DJ, you are a legend:fixed::yourock2::cheers2::bowdown:
I was logged in to the ubeaut url and the shorter .com url, but did not know about the shorter .com.au url. Logged into that and now they are opening. I don't know why there are three url's and why not being logged into all three will affect your experience of the site, seem clunky to me, but I don't want to know, I would prefer to stay ignorant!
Thanks DJ and Noel!

The hourglass indicates that the page hasn't finished loading, even though the activity bar may intermittently advise "Done." Odd that the hourglass is shown at all; could be browser and OS dependent, I guess. My ordinary screen capture from the keyboard doesn't capture cursor images.

G'day Wheelin',
Can you give me more specifics ....like what sub-forum ....what thread......as the link you gave just times out.
Everything else going fine, so if you could give me some details, we can suss the problem.

joe greiner

Odd. It timed out for me too, Noel.

But when I forced the address line to t=74399, it popped up (y'know, the brief part of the post) Robutacion's thread in Woodturning-General entitled "Would you burn it or turn it" (or something like that), which I'd just examined. Then it timed out again. IIRC, after my first examination, my connection did an automatic disconnect, but I re-dialed and got re-connected without logout.

This is a fresh copy of the link, which shouldn't make any difference (I think):
http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showthread.php?t=74399

My messages get bounced all over the world, so there could be a hiccup anywhere.

[Yep. Timed out for the third time.] {Also timed out when accessed from the direct level}

Most likely has something to do with the over 60 thumbnails it's a massive download.

joe greiner
24th September 2008, 09:58 PM
FWIW, I also get a timeout (or run out of patience) for TEEJAY's thread "To Hunt and Gather" in Small Timber Milling." The popout indicates t=79696.

BTW, I'm using Firefox (3, I think) with automatic updates disabled.

[Could be massive download would bring it to its knees, but my first (successful) examination at least brought up the first part of the thread (t=74399). I bailed out on the rest.]

Hi Joe,

The thumbnail is back, so maybe it was a speed issue at the time.

The reason the houseglas is showing on the screenshot, is that I am using Gadwin Printscreen to do screen captures.
