RufflyRustic
25th August 2008, 09:52 PM
Oh No you don't FC :nonono::no::p:D

It all depends on when Mr WD is in town and a couple of other committments I have in September as to whether I attend, let alone even hold one.

dai sensei
25th August 2008, 11:16 PM
I am in and out of Qld over the coming months whilst on leave, but I will attend a get together if I'm in town.

Hmm, seems however everyone always wants a get together, but we always run short of offers to actually host one. Apart from being in and out, I've held 3 so count me out to hold one soon, but I will try to be at any event within a decent driving distance provided I can get there. I just went to 2 in Melbourne :2tsup: and planning to attend one in WA in a few weeks :U.

For those of you fearful of holding a BBQ, here's some pointers to calm those fears:

We are a friendly bunch and don't bite
If you can't cook, someone else will (I've been known to cook a few)
If you don't have a BBQ, have a cold meat & salad type BBQ, or ask someone to bring one (mine is mobile)
If providing food & drinks is putting you off, just say it is BYO
Disposable plates, cups knives & forks etc etc will do, and again if you don't have any, tell us to BYO
If you worried about your messy yard & house, don't be, many of us are pigs :B. For my place, I just warn people to be prepared for a mess :U
If your shed is small, or you don't even have one, again don't worry. All we need is a yard to spread out on. Others can bring things for a show & tell, or a swap meet, or just chew the fat over a friendly drink.
If you don't have chairs, ask people to again BYO
If you are worried about the mess afterwards, some of us have been known to even help out there.
If you are worried about the weather (in Queensland :?), just ask everyone to log on at a certain time to confirm it is off or on - just allow for people's travel times.

It isn't really that hard

BBQ/get togethers are a great way to meet and greet other forumites and discuss similar interests. So take a deep breath and step up :U

If I thought you would like to spend a day playing with timber, maybe even lighting the forge and then eating woodfired pizzas I would offer to host a get together.

If the pizzas do not sound appealing we could always have bickies & dip:rolleyes:

If it is to be and Kingsthorpe is a suitable location are there some suggested dates. I'll need a bit of time to shovel out the shed & slash the jungle that passes for a yard.

I'll probably have to do some test tastings of the pizzas in advance as well:licklips::;

Hello all,

Donna I hope you can make it.

Andy you can bring your forge & anvil along if you want. Do you have a project we could do, I was going to make a couple of cala? lillies. I was hoping people would bring along some show & tell stuff to help fill the day.

I've got a couple of wood lathes to play with.

I will provide enough standard pizza dough, pizza sauce, cheese, shreded ham, olives, onion and anything else I think of for toppings. Please feel free to bring along any special toppings or base doughs.

I can't throw the bases, I use a rolling pin to spread them but am willing to learn how to throw them if any one can do it.

How are you off for chairs?

Sat or Sun?

I can bring my Ci1 rougher for anyone to have a try on the lathe. I'll also bring my thread chaser in case someone can show me how to use it :-. I should be able to make a scratch awl and making knife for door prizes as usual. I'll also be cutting up quite a bit of timber in the next few weeks I have off, so I'll bring some of that too.

Time is not important or is it? Turn up when your ready, just not before 6 am & leave when your ready.

I'll fire up the oven in the morning so we can have pizza lunch to cater for those needing to leave early. If any one wants to stay we can do pizzas again or have a BBQ for tea.

Instead I think I'll bring along a few shaving horses and drawknives with some green sticks...probably privet, as I can nab some on the trip over. What a nightmare. Hard drive decided to have a major coronary. Limited funds, poke in the dark knowledge, everything on the computer, including address of where i'm supposed to be heading tomorow. Got a second hand hard drive, managed to coax the dvd drive to work for a change installed windows, rang internet provider (satellite) and tried to get that reconected, but silly me, no driver installed for the ethernet card. Had a look for the cd, found and installed. Finally back on the net but it is slow. Still cant manage to get the screen resolution right, the little slider wont move, hmm probably another driver needed. Bugger sick of this already.

Hmmmmm need nice day out tomorow. Hubby looks like he is working, no call yet for me, so looks like I may be there. got the address and phone number now. Cool.
