I have inherited an old box type ship's lamp, brass frame with glass on all 5 sides. Except the glass has been broken over the years, and it is now a document case with silky oak timber infills where the glass used to be.
Some time in the past, an effort has been made to polish the brass with Brasso, or something similiar, and the rubbing rag has overlapped on to the timber infill, marking the timber, with all the tiny grain showing a white brasso residue.
Can anyone please advise how I might restore the timber to normal?
regards,
Jill
