Could you please replace the "Today's Posts" button on the Main Page when we're not logged in?

G'day Skew - We 're limiting access to some parts of the forum for non members and unfortunately the program can't distinguish between guests and members who aren't logged in. There will be some radical changes to what guests see of the forums and how they're viewed by them over the next week or so

However the Todays Post thingy isn't part of this so I'll see what's happened
maybe pulled off inadvertently.

Just a bit of a heads-up. Soon all members will need to either stay logged in or log in to see the regular forum.

Cheers - Neil :)

What's prompted the change Neil?

Also, Why has the split between renovate and this forum caused new posts to only be valid for that particular forum, unlike it used to be previously when it was combined.

this limits the amount of people who will look at posts between the forums

also, had problems logging in when the forum was setup. Is the user/pass the same between the two? Can you not session cookie between them for a common login?

Maybe it is just my perception, but I suspect the posting rate in both forums has drop significantly since the split. I suppose it is still early days, and the posting rate may pick up, but at the moment the renovation forum is an eerie quiet place.

Oh. I'll wait and see what happens before grumbling... :; but I do like to scan what's been going on as 'guest' when I have a spare moment, so I don't lose my last-read pointers for when I finally get the time to post replies.

Aye. I used to spend quite a bit of time in the reno areas as they pertain(ed) to my work interests but now that they're in an other, seperate forum, well... lately I've barely enough time to scan just this forum! :C

I hope the radical changes won't be TOO radical. I wouldn't have discovered this excellent BB without Google's help and some preliminary lurking. In fact, here and one other are the only places I now visit regularly for the latest and greatest of woodturning and woodworking.

And, speaking of "regularly," what, pray tell, is the "regular" forum? The whole WWF? or just the main tab?

You certainly are, in both lines. Thanks again.

Why has the split between renovate and this forum caused new posts to only be valid for that particular forum, unlike it used to be previously when it was combined.Because the new forum is just that, a completely new forum with its own domain. They are both completely dependant forums

this limits the amount of people who will look at posts between the forumsWe are working on a RSS Feed between the two forums.

also, had problems logging in when the forum was setup. Is the user/pass the same between the two? Can you not session cookie between them for a common login?User info should be the same for you on both forums as you were registered before the split. Don't log out and there will be no need to log back in when you return.

Maybe it is just my perception, but I suspect the posting rate in both forums has drop significantly since the split. I suppose it is still early days, and the posting rate may pick up, but at the moment the renovation forum is an eerie quiet place.Posts on this forum have stayed around the same and views are up slightly. Posts over at the Reno site are averaging around 70 per day with a low of 47 and high of 125 since the split and an average of approx 850,000 hits singe the split. It is inevitable that the posts will go down since the split especially as they aren't currently updated here and a lot of members won't bother going over there for a look. I was in there a few hours ago and the joint was really jumpin'. Pretty quiet now though.

I hope the radical changes won't be TOO radical. I wouldn't have discovered this excellent BB without Google's help and some preliminary lurking. In fact, here and one other are the only places I now visit regularly for the latest and greatest of woodturning and woodworking. I'm rebuilding the old style big page and making it the default view for guests. Reason for this is purely financial. The Google adds on these forums basically pay to keep the forums running and since the tabs went on the income has dropped to almost nothing. I don't want to go back to the bad old days of having to fund the forums completely out of my own pocket again. Hopefully the new guests page will change that. The new page will have a lot more adds although they won't be readily noticeable and will suggest guests register to get less adds and participate in the forums. The new view will also have limited access to photos.

speaking of "regularly," what, pray tell, is the "regular" forum? The whole WWF? or just the main tab?The regular forum from now on is the tabbed forums ie the entire site with the tabbed view as you should see now.
