Neil, the new position for the Google bar is great and much handier. Would it be possible though to move the Web/ www.woodworkforums.com text and radio buttons above the data entry box? This would allow a few more posts to be visible in the screen.

Secondly, can you make the forums the default search option?

Particularly the secondly!:2tsup:

The majority of forum members would already have a Google search box on their tool bar(s), so if they want to use Google in the forum it is going to be for a forum search.

Good suugestion Groggy:2tsup:

Not too sure what you mean about moving radio buttons etc to allow more posts to be visible. Maybe you have a different view to me but it only uses 1 line in my view.

Anyway... Have a look and try the one at the top of the wiki-blog default skin It has no radio buttons and is dedicated site search.

See what you reckon.

There isn't a hell of a lot that can be done to the search thing without raising the ire of Google. Have mucked around with it for a number of hours and this seems to be the best option without touching the Google code and getting in the poo.

Cheers - Neil :U

I'll try and do a cut/paste/pic when I get home. The forum header ads and header bar take up 1/3 of the screen and each line drops off a post in iSpy.

Anyway, I'll try to edit and post a pic later for you.

T'S'OK I understand now.....

Smartarze reply: Use the scroll bar Greg, use the scroll bar.

Top and bottom searches in wiki-etc are now dedicated searches for this site but will allow web search on new page after it generates. Will get to the other skins soon.

The search will now also include the rest of the ubeaut site so, if for example you search for wood, you will get a heap of results from the forums but also results like this: Timber Health Hazards (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/badwood.htm) from ubeaut.com.au (http://www.ubeaut.com.au)

Cheers - Neil :U

PS Sorry about the Smartarze reply but I really couldn't help myself.

Cheers - Neil :UI know there are limitations on what can be done, both by code and by Mr Google, but if we don't ask we don't get eh? Thanks for what you've done already, I was wearing out my mouse scrolling to the end of the page .

Neil, the Custom Search works a treat. I like the way a new window opens with the results.

One small thing - when you type in the search item and press enter it works. When you type in the search item and click on the search button nothing happens.

enter "test" in the box, click on search

close new window and click on search again, what happens?

You need to Refresh the WWF page, then it works.

This is a "feature" of quite a few WWF pages, happens in Private Messages as well when you do something, ie save messages to disk, then come back and want to Delete, it doesn't work either. You have to Refresh first, then start all over again, there are a few inconsistencies in vBulletin like that (rough edges?)

Did all that and it's fine, with new tab open and closed, works on either "enter" or clicking on search

Strange, a one shot deal for me. Maybe some others could try it. (I am using Firefox)

Are the search results showing up in a new tab or window?

I'm using F/fox as well

Well we're both on the same browser and both getting new tabs, so I say your mouse is worn  :U

You need to refresh the the window you did your initial search from before you can search again.

It's a Firefox thing. Works fine in IE, Opera, Safari and Netscape and I presume all other browsers.

I have also found the same problem with searches on other sites using Firefox. IE and others do an auto refresh but for some reason Firefox doesn't seem to do it. There are a lot of queries about it on the Firefox site but there don't seen to be any fixes on offer other than hit the refresh button.

Have you tried Opera (http://www.opera.com/) it's a great browser and it works a treat. Looks and feels very similar to Firefox and can emulate iE or Firefox. Well worth a try if you haven't used it before. I love it.

Yes, I tried Opera years ago, maybe it's time to try it again. I like Firefox because I synch my shortcuts across multiple PCs and laptop.
