I'm thinking of inviting also the Sculptors & Carvers and the Western Woodies, two small clubs of Woodworkers SA of which I am a member, for some cross pollination. We might produce some more socially outgoing forumites and some more computer literate locals....:D

Nice hearing from you Trevor. We have now got most of last year's group and a few new ones, should be a good turn up.
I am following in your footsteps as regards basic format, but we have another couple of weeks to fix the details. Any advice duly considered.

Hi Harry

Jointer blades going fine but have had a long rest for some time. They started to annoy the neighbours.
As for the format Frank, my advice is do your own thing and everyone will just fit in.

As a matter of fact that was the machine that first got up their nose (or should I say in their ears). :(( Have to be very selective about use from now on.:D

sorry frank,
I have to go to a work function, boss has put the foot well and truely down.
Boss is making me entertain guests at the show down.
Apparently "it's not about football, it's about re-enforcing our corporate prescence and it would be good for me to network within the industry"

Honest truth: I HATE FOOTBALL, and would rather be having my left nut testing grit scale on a belt sander.

catch you next time.

Bricks.:((

Frank&Earnest
5th July 2008, 12:43 AM
Sorry to hear that Bricks.
If you feel that way, you may not be in the mood to entertain guests on the day, but I have to admit that your grit testing procedure would be really entertaining...:U

It is to be expected that over a couple of months a few people get spanners in the wheels. At this point we have:

I have invited the Sculptors & Carvers and the Western Woodies, we will probably have another half a dozen people coming, I have asked them to RSVP by the 10th.

Could you maybecomers confirm by then also, please? :) Also, any latecomers please sing out, so by the end of next week I can email you the details.

Current plan: roast instead of snags (I am no good with the grill), everything else as usual.

Hi Peoples,

I've just though in butt in, and say a couple of things, I'm pretty sure Frank wouldn't mind. Firstly, I should follow the normal procedure and make know in this thread, of my intentions/confirmation of being at Frank& Earnest place next Sunday the 20th. This will be my first time since in SA to participate in any events of this nature, and my first as a Woodwork Forums Australia member and guest. Putting faces and bodies to a name, can be a "nerves recking" thing/experience, to many people, including myself! we will see...!

Now, the other thing is that, by now, everyone knows that having timbers for sale (plenty of it :D), I would be taking some, as had been suggested by Harry72 on a previous post. Frank is OK with it so, I would like to request/remind those that will be there on the day that, if there is any particular timber species and or any particular blank(s) that I have advertised, that you particularly interested in, please let me know by PM or email. I will have a 6x4 trailer with me so, to bring that piece/blank or other that you want or would like to have a closer look, is no problem, and maybe some of us could end-up getting 2 birds with a single stone, huh?
Anyone that is going to be there is welcome to make recommendations (no obligation) of what they would like to see!
Is only a week to go so, don't let it to the last minute to make your request, by Friday I would like to know what I need to take down, apart from what I will surprise everyone with...!:oo::?:U, so be nice...:;

Cheers:2tsup:

I'll bring some Broughton Willow for you and others to look and try out... must go through my pile and see how much I can spare:) (just got some more today)

Hi everyone,

The week is nearly over but the rain is not so, I reckon, is going to get wet on the weekend, in this neck of the woods, for sure...!:((.
This is a good weather to sell timbers by the kg but, they don't burn that well, not that I'm concerned, as none of my selected timbers are for "firewood", I shell try not to allow the "moisture" content levels, of the timbers I will transport in the trailer, to increase dramatically, there is, getting too bloody wet...!:o

I hope you have a "big" veranda Frank...! do you have a boat handy? or we all just hang-on the the lumps of wood to float?:U:wink:

Cheers:2tsup:

No worries RBTCO, here does not rain as much as at your place, and mostly at night. On the other hand, Murphy rules ok, tomorrow it might bucket down. Anyway, we'll be less than 20 people and the veranda is 50m2, we'll' have more room per person than in a Tokio apartment...:D

Hi everyone,

Well, I knew Frank could turn/carve, I didn't know he could cook too!
Thanks mate, the meal was a winner.:)
I'm grateful for Frank's hospitality, and about his shed...well, I want it:(.
In regards to Frank's guests, and respected forumates, you guys are good fun, and the right people to spend a rainy day with.:;
My big thank you, to everyone that made some timber purchases, thanks also Harry72, for bringing some timber and taking the pics.
Once again Frank, my gratitude for allowing me to store the trailer (all timbers), in your garage, away from the rain and easy for to people to have a look. I also appreciated you allowing me to provide a few minutes of entertainment, with the introduction of my surprise draw(s). Thanks for been patient with me, I'm a bit out of practise, a long time has passed since I was on one of these gatherings, in a active position, if you know what I mean!.
I hope everyone got something from my "goodies pile" and didn't mind with my "overload" of temptation timbers. It wasn't a joke when I said, I got lots of it:doh:.
I will be looking forward to, first guys, see some pieces done, out of timbers taken home, and second, I will be looking forward to see some of you, maybe together or not, up to this neck of my woods (Mt.Compass) for a visit and get those trailers full, on George's home visit special prices, huh??:o

Well, time for me to shut up, go and get some rest.:oo:

I big thank you to all of todays Frank shed meet 20,July 2008, Forum members and participants.

Just some pics of handling realy big stuff:C

Now I know why I missed you Zenwood. Sorry to hear you are crook. Get well soon mate. What about Studley, what's your excuse mate.
Thanks Frank for your extreme hospitality and making me jealous about having a big shed. I've never met anyone before with a shed equipped like Jamie's Kitchen; wall oven, set of hot plates, microwave, fridge. I think the only thing missing was the sink or did I miss that.
Thanks to Harry and George for going to the trouble of bringing so much timber to just give away. For a short while I wished I was interested in wood turning!!! But I did come away with a few pieces that should make a nice box.
Thanks to the other guys and gal for your company.

Sorry to take the mick(y) out of you, Harry72 :p but Mick(m2c1Iw) was also a lurgi apology, the one you missed is Rat52.

And the lone representative of Woodworkers SA's name is Frank, not Mick. The way they are resisting computerisation, I wonder whether we will ever manage to rope them in...:D

All in all, though, the attendance was perfect for me, enough to have fun without stressful hosting. We should do this more often! :2tsup:

And so you do not feel left out, here is your mug shot (from the previous meet): :D

Hi everyone,

I agree with Frank, was a easy & fun get together, not only for the host but also for the guests. I'm pretty certain that the presence of those expected but that couldn't make it, wouldn't change this fact, and I would have enjoyed to meet some more forumates but on the other hand, too big of a gathering (lots & lots of people) does scares me a bit (maybe some bad experiences:((), hard to control when alcohol & opposite "temperaments/arguments" are involved,:doh::C ahahahah, and off-course... lumps of wood!:o:D. Just kidding...!:p

Was my intention to take some pics also but, in no time I was in the land of the "woodmadness" with the "goodies" exposed in the trailer, floor, cabinet, on top of anything I could get my hands on, etc., etc., and then the smell of that roast pork and home made bread done the rest...! Was a shame that Harry in one of his many trips to the garage:), didn't have the camera with him but I have no one else to blame than myself for not doing what I had planed to do (take plenty of pics of everything...!:(), so I apologise to everyone (mainly to those that weren't there, for not being able to show any "evidence" of the trailer load. (I could kick myself, yeah:(().
