I just fitted a new cedar bifold door and used decking oil to oil it. Done 3 coats and now it gets yellow in places on the surface. Should I have used a better quality oil?
Thanks

Ideally you should have used a marine grade varnish.

can I let it dry out for some month and than use a marine grade varnish? or try to wash it out with terps?

Hi,

- let it dry out completely
- give the doors a light sand (to the point that you would be happy looking at the doors)
- wipe the doors over with a damp rag to highlight if there are any other areas which show up yellow (this will let you get an idea of the varnish and the colour so what you see is close to what you get)
- let the timber dry out
- apply the marine grade varnish (try sikkens or feast watson)

Hope this helps,
JT
