I am just about to make my first ASH kitchen worktop.

What is the best oil to use and what is the technique to apply it?

Basic stuff I know, but the wood is costing a bit and I want to get it right.

P.s Try not to refer to any brand name oils, as I may not manage to find it in the Uk.

Smiffy.

I can recommend Rustins Danish oil, it's easy to apply and food safe.

Their based in London (Waterloo Rd to be exact) so they should be available.

It's applied the same as other oils (i think), generous first coat, buff of excess, let it dry, followed by a couple of lighter coats, also buffed out.

It's (almost) that easy.

I have Kevin Ley's book on furniture making (It's fantastic), and I see he has tin on his shelf.

Hope this helps :D

Ben.

Danish oil is mentioned quite a lot in the info I have found as the stuff to use to maintain the worktop.
I suppose it makes sense that this is what is used as the primary application, and it is easily available too.

I was not sure about how to apply it though, and your reply is all I need. Thanks:)

I have ordered the book you suggest too.

Thanks a lot.
