I am at the stage of staining my DVD/CD rack. It is radiata pine, and I have purchased the Wattyl Jarrah stain. I was really looking for something a bit browner, but with a reddish tinge.
Does anyone know if this stain can be tinted with anything to get a more brownish colour?
all suggestions gratefully received
kind regards,
Jill

Mix some walnut or blackwood into it of the same brand and range.

I have read that adding green tint to a reddish paint turns it to brown. Anyone ever tried option to remove some of the red from a stain?

I have used a black stain after a red one to end up with a very rich dark brown. This was finished with shellac which would have added a golden tone as well.

Thanks bucket1 - that sounds very interesting and worth a go , but on a scrap piece first :)
Your method gets around the problem of experimenting with mixing the pigmnent in liquid form, especially if they don't mix

You can mix the same type stains with one another ie: oil based with oil based, water with water, turpentine with turpentine, alcohol with alcohol. But you can't cross mix.
You can however tint them with universal tinter - the stuff in the carousel at paint shops that they use to tint paint with. Adding green will kill red but too much can be disastrous.
