Hi all. I am new to this forum and new to decorating! I have heard that there are a lot of differences between paint brands. Do you "professionals" have any brands you recommend above others? e.g. Dulux, Wattyl, Taubmans? (I have heard British Paints are not good.)
Also, do you buy them from Bunnings? or is there somewhere much cheaper?
Thanks guys!

Not a fan of Dulux or Taubmans- Both a little watery. Watty are good (ID range), but pricy. I'd go Haymes Ultra Premium range- Best paint I've used.

Bunnings will be just about the most expensive way to buy paint. Ideally if you can get wholesale rates you will save 40-60% from bunnings prices. But you need to know someone who can get it (a painter perhaps) or have some contacts in the paint industry. Best advice is to get the top range paints from whoever you choose as you get what you pay for with paint.
Also do some research into paint brands as you will mostly find that many of the smaller brands are just rebrands by the big companies. Dulux and Wattyl are basically your main choices so pick the paint which best serves your purpose and beware of the false economy of cheap paint.

All paint companies have good and bad paints. But stick to the premium range. You get a much better coverage and better wear and tear and cleanup pretty well and the finished product will amaze you.

There is no such thing as 'cheap paint'.
I now use only Haymes - good quality and Australian made - worth the price

thats right on the money
it depends on what you are wanting to paint, some brands are better than others....as for Haymes paints i would'nt use their crap if they paid me ..( it is rubbish ). wattyl, solver, for creams and whites....Dulux, for dark colours...berger gold label for good coverage and its not a bad drop all round in fact....Exterior, Wattyl solagard.
as for price...i buy it direct from the makers..but hey it's my job:2tsup:

We used Dulux 101 for interior walls in a nice light coffee colour. Seemed to have good coverage and has come up a treat. The load of marks on the wall from the kids have all come off easily too so far. Seems ok.
Have also used Solarguard (Wattyl?) for exterior weatherboards... Also good.
And then, got some cheap paint from Crystal paints here in Brissie for skirting boards (gloss). Cheap as chips but VERY good! But their low sheen stuff not as good as the "brand names"...
